St. Croix

U.S. Virgin Islands

THE ONLY PLACE IN THE CARIBBEAN WHERE YOU CAN DIVE

A WALL,

A REEF,
        A WRECK,

            AND A PIER!

                        ALL ON THE SAME DAY

THESE REEFS ARE ALL ALONG THE WEST END OF THE ISLAND

KING’S CORNER Sort of a mini-wall makes up this southwestern-most dive site on the island. Starting at 50’ the drop goes down to 90’. Lots of nice coral and fish.

TIDE BOTTLE There wasn’t always money available to replace missing moorings so when the mooring ball at this site along King’s Reef went missing, you can pretty much guess what replaced it. The mooring ball’s back now. Typical of the sites along this stretch, there’s a sandy bottom with a lot of very health patch coral.

SWIRLING REEF OF DEATH How can you resist a dive site with this name? It’s actually a gorgeous reef in about 30’ of water. It has a sandy bottom with lots of patch coral and plenty of beautiful tropical fish. Despite the name it’s a perfect intro dive. It was named by a couple of thirteen year old boys who thought Dan’s Reef was a lame name. The Divemaster told them to come up with a better name and by the time the dive boat was back at the dock Dan’s Reef had become the Swirling Reef of Death.

SPANISH ANCHOR Psssst. It’s not really Spanish, it’s Danish. It dates back to around 1750 and is lying out in the open and completely encrusted in coral (what wouldn’t be after laying in the Caribbean Sea for a couple of hundred years). The anchor’s in 35’ of water.

SPRAT HOLE A very healthy coral reef bounded a bright white sand patch that serves as a resting place for Southern Sting Rays. Lots of fish and a pretty good chance of seeing a turtle.

ARMAGEDDON When the famous old Frederiksted Pier was damaged in a storm, it was replaced, and the remains were dumped here as an artificial reef. It starts at 70’ so it’s not a dive for every diver but the growth on the structures is phenomenal and there’s a LOT of sealife there.
